The BEST margarita's in town. I like a plain old original margarita on the rocks with salt on the rim, but they have a variety of margaritas to choose from for people who like something different. The food is excellent Mexican, I prefer the chicken taco salad. They have a huge dining room so there is never much of a wait. They can accomodate large parties and are great for the family. On the other side of the building there is a large bar area. They have TV's for the sports fans and a juke box so you can pick your own tunes. Every month on the full moon they have "Full Moon Margarita Madness" which offers drink specials and free raffles. It's always a good time at Margarita's, whether you're getting dinner with the family or drinks with your friends.

A great place for sushi. I had tried sushi many times and never liked it until I went to Feng. They have an extensive menu including all typical sushi and sashimi, and also a few creations of their own chef. For those who don't like sushi, there is plenty more to choose from including other Japanese dishes, or even a good old fashioned steak. The menu is pricey, but well worth it. If you enjoy Feng, try their sister restaurant Ginza in Bloomfield.

Pourhouse is one of my favorites for bars downtown. The drinks are made good and strong, so you get your money's worth. There is always a DJ that plays rock music, which is a nice change from the club atmosphere of many other bars in the area. There are pool tables, but good luck getting to use one Thursday - Saturday night. Pourhouse draws a crowd, but be warned, if you graduated high school anywhere in the area in the last 10 years, you will run into an old classmate.

McKinnon's is a semi-traditional Irish pub. They often have live music playing. Among the other bars nearby, McKinnon's is often the more laid back option. It still gets loud and sometimes rowdy, but you won't see the type of huge crowd or club atmoshpere like many of the other places. There is a variety of good drinks and they offer specials throughout the week. The downside: If you have to use the bathroom, go somewhere else. The toilets are downstairs in a musty, often wet and poorly lit basement. None of the bars downtown have a nice bathroom, but McKinnon's has the worst of all.

Hot Tomato's is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants. The garlic bread is to die for, with 5 cheeses stuffed into a small loaf with fresh garlic. And they'll send you home with a free pre-packaged loaf that you can eat or freeze for another day. The Italian menu is spectacular. They have a fresh mozzarella and tomato salad that makes your mouth water. The service is superior and the ambiance is appropriate for a date or a family dinner. The prices are a little high, but reasonable considering the quality of the food and service. The only disadvantage is the parking, which is a problem with just about any place downtown. Fortunately there is a parking lot directly across the street from the restaurant, but you will have to pay to park.

The best mojito around! Excellent Brazilian food. It's great for anyone looking to try something new and different. I highly recommend the yuca fries. If Brazilian is a little to exotic for your taste, try Hot Tomato's in downtown Hartford. It is a sister restaurant of Braza and has the best Italian food around.

Apricots is very expensive, but worth it for the occasional treat. The menu selections change on a regular basis, but you can always count on a fabulous meal that you will rave about. The restaurant is set in an old building, leaving you feeling like you're dining in a friend's parlor 100 years ago. Everyone should try Apricots at least once, but be prepared to feel a pain in your wallet.

Very good high-end Chinese restaurant. Elegant atmosphere with live piano during dinner service. In the back, separate from the dining area, there is a bar that features karaoke. Great place for a nice meal and / or a good time. If you like your dinner here, I would also recommend Great Taste in New Britain.

Excellent Thai cuisine with good service. I've been to similar restaurants that have had slightly better service, but so far the food is unmatched. There is something for everyone. You have to try the chicken satay!

My best friend had her wedding reception at Grant's in January. They closed down the restaurant specifically for the occasion. The staff was very accomodating through the whole process, and the evening went off without a hitch. The filet mignon and penne a la vodka were fabulous. I have also been to this restaurant for a regular dinner service, and it was equaly satisfying. The menu is a bit pricey, so if you want to save some money but still get the experience, try going for the lunch menu. And check out Billy Grant's other restaurant, Bricco, located just around the corner on LaSalle Road.

Harry's has the best pizza in West Hartford. Their Neopolitana style thin crust is complimented with a flavorful sauce, made with fresh tomatoes. I recommend it with mozzerella, spinach and broccoli, but any pizza on the menu is sure to satisfy. Other than pizza, the menu is limited, but the food is good. Be careful, the last I remember there were not free refills on the soda.

Bricco is one of Billy Grant's fabulous restaurants. The rustic Italian menu offers something for everyone. The service is superior. Often you will find a server circling the dining room offering samples of one of their gourmet pizza selections. The breads are delicious, but be careful not to fill up on them so you have room to enjoy the fantastic food that follows. Try to save room for dessert. They have an excellent tiramisu. If you are impressed with your experience at Bricco, try Billy Grant's other restaurant, Grant's. It is located just around the corner from Bricco on Farmington Avenue.

Gold Roc is a great stop after a night at the bar or a concert. The food and service are typical of any diner. Be prepared to see many college-aged kids, often drunk, as the night progresses.

Typical diner. There's really nothing special about it, but it's open 24 hours so it's a good place to stop after a late night out.

Great Taste is the best high-end Chinese restaurant in CT! It is family owned and operated. The service is exceptional, with a friendly staff that never forgets a face. They have an extensive wine list and full bar to compliment your meal. Upon ordering, they offer a hot finger towel. The food is amazing to both the palate and the eye, with colorful garnishes of carved fruits and vegetables. The prices, though higher than the average Chinese restaurant, are still quite reasonable. Great Taste is the perfect place to enjoy an elegant meal with out breaking the bank.

Tommaso's is a great little Italian place, perfect for a date. The food is delicious and there is a touch of romantic ambiance. There are several horse-shoe shaped booths that make it easy to squeeze in next to your date for a romantic meal. I don't specifically remember the pricing, but it wasn't ridiculous.

In a town known for it's large Polish population, I believe Cracovia is the best Polish restaurant around. The environment isn't the greatest, but the food is exceptional. They offer platters with samples of pierogi, bigos and any traditional Polish food you can think of. I only gave 3 stars because the service varies based on the number of patrons in the restaurant. If it's too busy the waitstaff can't seem to handle it. But if you're willing to wait, or able to go at an off-peak hour, you can't beat the food.

Szechuan Tokyo has a menu featuring great variety. The service is above average; the staff is very attentive. The dining room is nice, decorated with a typical Asian theme. Most nights you can see their live jazz show as you enjoy your meal. The only disadvanatge is that the music can be loud, making conversation difficult.

Capitol Lunch is famous for it's hot dogs served with a mystery meat sauce on top. Unfortunately, my Capitol Lunch experience led me to my first and only experience with food poisoning. Take my review with a grain of salt, I am not a big fan of hot dogs to begin with. But I thought a hot dog with such a good reputation was worth a shot. I was disappointed to discover that the restaurant was located in the ghetto of New Britain, not a very good area to be if you aren't from there. The inside of the restaurant looked unclean. The famous meat sauce looked more like dog food. I have never been as sick as I was the day I ate at Capitol Lunch.

China Pan is one of the higher-end Chinese restaurants in the area, but the prices are still pretty inexpensive. Excellent choice for vegetarians, vegans and carnivores alike. They have an extensive menu of vegetable and bean curd dishes, and even some "imitation" style dishes that are quite good. They have a vegetarian roast duck that even fooled me. Personally, I like my meat... and if you're like me you will find plenty options to choose from, including but not limited to items you would find on a typical Chinese menu. This would be a great spot for a date when one person is vegetarian / vegan and the other is not.
